At Cooke Spain, we believe in continuous improvement and in actively protecting the natural environment where we live and work.

That’s why, once again, we’re launching one of our most important environmental initiatives: the monitoring of the European storm petrel (Hydrobates pelagicus) and Scopoli’s shearwater (Calonectris diomedea borealis) colonies on Terreros Island (off the coast of Almería), near the location of one of our hatcheries, Pescaviva Real.

Technology in the service of conservation

As in previous campaigns, we’re using next-generation infrared cameras, capable of capturing images deep within the crevices where these seabirds nest.

This completely non-invasive method allows us to observe the behaviour and development of the European storm petrel without disturbing its habitat or altering its breeding cycle.

This little-known species spends most of the year in the open sea and only returns to land during the breeding season.

This long-standing initiative is part of our broader environmental efforts, and is carried out with the necessary authorizations from the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development of the Andalusian Government.
